Day 1: Arrive in Vienna, Austria

  • Arrive in Vienna where you’ll be met at the airport by Rudy Maxa’s concierge service and whisked to your hotel. Vienna, Austria’s capital is best known as the home of Mozart and Beethoven, and its Baroque architecture is breathtaking. The city’s Christmas festivals are also justifiably famous. On your first evening, take a walking tour of several Christmas markets including the Christkindlmarkt on Rathausplatz, which offers almost unlimited shopping. Dinner is at the home of the world’s most famous schnitzel, Figlmüller at Backerstrasse. 
  • Your hotel is the famed The Ritz-Carlton, Vienna which has its own Christmas market on the roof of the hotel

Day 2: Vienna 

  • After a traditional Viennese breakfast, you’ll take a guided tour of Schönbrunn Palace, the main summer residence of the Habsburg rulers.
  • The 1,441-room Rococo palace is one of the most important architectural, cultural, and historic monuments in the country.
  • After the tour, you’ll get to explore the Christmas Market located in the Palace courtyard followed by a Strudel making demonstration and tasting.
  • After lunch, you’ll visit the famous Spanish Riding School – the home of the Lipizzaner horses followed by a very exclusive, private visit to one of the world’s most exclusive wine clubs. Dinner is served at Julius Meinl.

Day 3: Salzburg, and train to Munich

  • After a leisurely breakfast, board the high-speed train to Munich and make a stop in Salzburg for lunch at Sternbräu. You’ll have time to explore the Salzburg Christmas markets in the center of old town along Getreidegasse before resuming the journey to Munich. Bring your appetite—dinner is at the Augustiner-Keller. Your hotel is Le Méridien.

Day 4: Munich

  • Begin the morning in the center of Munich, at the Marienplatz – the heart of the city’s Christmas markets. You’ll also return here at night when the entire town square is illuminated by brilliant, colored lights. The city teems with museums and churches worthy of your attention, and the world-famous Glockenspiel with its mechanical figurines is also in the center of town. At Christmas markets, it’s standard operating procedure to keep warm with an occasional cup of warm, spiced, red wine called “gluhwein.”

Day 5: From Munich to Zurich, Switzerland

  • En route to Zurich, Switzerland, stop to tour the Bavarian castle that inspired Disney to create his “magic kingdom”, Neuschwanstein Castle. This wedding cake of a castle was built by “mad King Ludwig II” in the 19th century. In the afternoon, check into the Sheraton Zurich Neues Schloss or the Zurich Marriott. Dinner is at the charming Restaurant Oberhof where you’ll enjoy local fare.

Day 6: Zurich, Switzerland

  • Among the Christmas markets in Zurich is Wienachtsdorf, the Zurich Old Town market, and the indoor market inside the city’s main train station with its towering Christmas tree adorned with thousands of Swarovksi crystals. Peek inside Zurich’s most prominent landmark, the Grossmunster Cathedral, and visit the Beyer Clock and Watch Museum. Dinner is at the famous Zeughauskeller, well known for its sausages and flank steak or pan-fried pork sausage served by the meter.

Day 7: Zurich, Switzerland 

  • Enjoy your last morning in Zurich with a walking tour of Old Town Zurich before departing Switzerland.
